Although I have experienced many wonderful vacations over the years, it was a recent trip to California that was the perfect family vacation for me.

We flew into San Francisco, where we rented a car and hit the road. We started our perfect family vacation by driving along a coastal road and watching the fog lift to reveal the ocean in all its immensity and beauty. We then stopped at a cute little restaurant where we could gaze out at a harbor filled with boats coming and going.

After a delightful meal we headed further South where we visited an aquarium. What an amazing place to see. There were sting rays you could touch, little sharks that would stick their heads out of the water to look up at you, and all other kinds of sea life. It was an experience that will stay with me throughout my life.

Upon returning to San Francisco we walked along the beach front and took pictures before calling it a night. The next day we headed to Alcatraz for a tour. It was fascinating to see how the prisoners there had lived. We also had the opportunity to meet an author who had written a book on Alcatraz that included information about the famous inmates from there. He signed our copy and I had most of it read before we returned from our vacation.

The next jaunt in our perfect family vacation was the Winchester Mystery House. There is nothing else like it. It was built by the widow of one of the Winchester heirs. She lost her small child and then her husband within a short time of one another and went crazy. She believed that the only way to keep bad spirits at bay was to continuously build on her house. This meant building around the clock and adding rooms, closets, etc. randomly, continuously expanding. There is a staircase that goes nowhere (it connects with the ceiling), a door on the second floor that opens into midair, and a cupboard that is only about an inch deep. It is a truly incredible house to walk through.

Before catching our return flight and ending our perfect family vacation we explored the Maritime Park. This is along the beach and consists of several old ships you can walk through. They still have small room with signs showing you where the different crew members worked and slept.

This was our perfect family vacation. Everything went well and we enjoyed all of the interesting sights. We all had our favorite parts about the trip, but nothing we did was dull.

When it comes to choosing the destination for your next family holiday you have to consider many things and these are the things that people have had to consider every time they book a family break. The first and most important thing to consider is what budget you have to spend as this will tell you what to look for. If you have a large family then your budget is going to be stretched and finding a cost effective deal is going to be vital. You first have two options; a holiday in the UK or abroad? This may largely come down to the cost and time frame which you have to work with as both are important.
If you only have a few days off from work whilst the kids are off school then maybe a UK holiday is going to be a better choice as it means less travelling and more time at the destination with the family. So, now you have chosen a UK destination you now need to decide where you fancy going and in the UK, there are many places that are great for all family holidays. This includes the picturesque countryside of the UK as well as the many great holiday parks that are available located in various destinations around the UK that mean accessing them is easy wherever you live.
These parks are certainly family friendly as they make sure that no matter what age your family has (grandparents and toddlers included) there is something for everyone. From the baby pool in the waterpark that is great fun to the entertainment on offer, you will have something to do whether you are looking for an all action holiday or just to kick back and relax, or probably both! With these kinds of deals available to all families, there are plenty of ways of relieving the stress of the modern world and unwinding with those closest to you.
The Easter break is coming up which provides every family with the perfect opportunity to get away and enjoy a great relaxing and enjoyable holiday together. The UK holiday parks have something for everyone and their great accommodation options on offer as well mean that you and your family can enjoy a great night sleep after a day packed with fun and excitement at a time where you most need it.
family holiday parks are great fun and you can make sure that you have the best possible weekend breaks there when you go online.

Does the cost of travel have you wondering whether or not you can afford to take your family on a vacation this year? Your much needed and well deserved vacation should be a priority in your life and we are providing ways to make your family vacation time more affordable and more enjoyable.

1. Kids and Cruises -Traveling by ship is a way for families to visit several places on one trip without constantly having to pack and unpack which is a big benefit for parents with young children. Additionally most cruise lines offer children’s programs and kids will love the freedom of life on board a cruise ship.

Way to save on cruising: Travel agents specializing in cruises and businesses that book blocks of cabins can offer quite a savings on rooms. Cruising prices are also dependent upon the season you choose to cruise. Look for off season specials or cruises that include airfare as part of the deal. Many of the cruise lines offer a kid sail free program.

2. All Inclusive Packages – Look for family friendly locations. Family package destinations will offer activities for both parents and children. Entertainment for everyone plus food, drink and activities are all in one place.

Ways to save on packages: Mid week departure and arrivals will save you money on airfare. Also schedule your travels for off season.

3. Renting a House – Renting a house for your family vacation in the location you want to visit will provide the benefits of learning the local culture plus you get more for your vacation dollar. You can experience life with all its local flavors. If find out all the info about a location before the trip you will experience all the fun and excitement and not miss anything once you get there

Ways to save on rentals: The internet offers huge resources for finding a rental in the location you prefer. Local newspapers for the areas which are often published on line can help you find a great deal also. Look for coupons to save money on food and activities. It’s a great money-saving idea to split the cost of the house rental with another family whether it be family or friends.

4. Adventure Packages – Adventure vacations are designed to teach basic skills and how to respect the environment. Whether you choose white water rafting or hiking in the wilderness, your family’s safety will be a top priority with your nature guide. Most of the time all equipment is provided and often will include all meals for the day.

Ways to save on adventure trips: Book your trip with an adventure travel specialist. You will be sure to get the best price with the most features.

5. Camping Vacations – Outdoor vacations such as camping provide families ways to work together and play together. Campgrounds normally offer plenty of activities to keep children entertained. Camping can be either in a tent or many places even offer cabins. Additionally you can rent an RV to experience RV camping.

Ways to save on camping: Many national campground locations offer membership cards that offer benefits to its regular campers. Cooking your food at camp rather than eating out will help you save money.

Wherever you decide on the family vacation, whether it’s an airline ticket or a hotel room, never take the first price your quoted. Always attempt to negotiate for a better price. Ask about any available discounts. Be a flexible traveler. If you’re willing to give up your seats on a flight for someone flying standby, you’ll be rewarded with free tickets. Set aside the dates you want to travel and then watch for last minute deals. When on vacation skip the souvenirs and start a postcard or refrigerator magnet collection. If you plan properly you can be assured of your family having a fun and affordable family vacation.

Are you looking for effective parenting skills and tips that really work? Today, so much literature is devoted to this topic that, as parents, we are often so overwhelmed with all the different ideas and theories that it begs the question, “Does it really have to be this complicated?” Yes, parenting is complex, but do we really need a degree in child psychology to raise happy, secure children? Well, the good news is that, although being a parent requires commitment and determination, the best parenting skills are really quite simple, and when we understand what a child really needs, we discover that we are all equipped to be great parents, we just have to learn how.
Most of us are aware that yelling and screaming at a child to stop a tantrum is counter-productive. We realize that dealing with frustration by becoming frustrated puts us in a battle against our child rather than allowing us to work with them to deal with the real ‘reason’ for the behavior. Threats, bribes, punishing, and anger come from desperation and a feeling of helplessness, but when we recognize that the behavior is only a result or a symptom of an underlying cause, then we can gain a new perspective and find more effective techniques that will benefit both ourselves and our children.
Every child has basic needs that must be met, and good parenting is discovering what those needs are as well as recognizing that bad behavior is usually a result of an unmet need. The focus should not be on the behavior, because in reacting to actions alone, we neglect to acknowledge what our children are really trying to tell us.
1. Rely on your intuition. Remember, there is always a hidden or unmet need behind every misbehavior. Do our children need attention or physical contact such as a hug? Are they tired, hungry, or frustrated? Engaging our intuition is like “pulling the emotional plug”. It allows us to take a step back, remove ourselves from the stress of the moment and take a look at the bigger picture. Rather than focusing on the behavior we desire and trying to force compliance, we need to take the time to determine what need is precipitating the misbehavior and find a way to fulfill it. By meeting the need, we encourage better behavior. It is important to realize that it is not about giving in to whatever our children want, but about giving them what they need or what we know is best for them.
2. Give unconditional love. This is the most effective parenting skill because it shows our children that we love them no matter how they act or behave. Unconditional love and acceptance regardless of behavior shows our children that they are valued for who they are, not for their actions or achievements. Misbehavior is often a cry for attention, and giving them what they need most will extinguish undesirable behavior and quiet any tantrum. If we only show our children that we love them when they behave then we are sending the message that they need to earn our acceptance and that our love is based on what they do rather than who they are. If we want to be effective parents, we must give unconditional love and acceptance.
3. Give respect and understanding. While children cannot be given unlimited responsibility and decision making rights, it is still important that they be treated like real people. They may not always get what they want, but we need to take the time to explain to them why they cannot have their own way so that they understand our position and do not feel rejected or disrespected. Even as adults, we know that we cannot always have everything we desire, but when we understand the reasoning, or the ‘why’, then we are more likely to accept the situation. When we listen to our children, not only will they feel more valued, but we will also learn what they need to feel respected and accepted.
4. Give autonomy and responsibility while remaining calm and patient. Our children want to feel independent, complete tasks themselves, and decide on their own when they need the help of others. Asking, “Would you like some help?”, instead of, “Let me help you,” allows our children to make the choice rather than having the decision forced on them. As parents, we determine most of what happens in our homes, but our children also have a need to feel like they can make a contribution or that they are an involved member of the family. Yes, it is important that we have rules, but they should be flexible enough that our children can make decisions or be presented with choices within a given framework so they not only learn how to make decisions but also how to live with the resulting consequences. In the struggle to gain independence, our children may become frustrated or irritated, which may cause us to become equally frustrated and irritated. However, it is important that we remain calm and patient, allowing them to work through these issues and develop the ability to persevere, work for a goal, and think creatively.
5. Give undivided presence and attention. This is also referred to as ‘attachment parenting’ and really involves tuning into our children or connecting with them so that we can identify their needs and desires and understand the best way to meet them. Taking the time to sit and talk with our children, looking them in the eye and giving them our focused attention, is one of the best ways we can use to get to know our children, recognize their strengths and abilities, and learn their dreams and goals. This is not about following a book or parenting theory. It is about finding out what is best for our children and incorporating those techniques that bring positive results. It involves constant re-evaluating, maybe some experimenting, and definitely a lot of love, patience, and time.
6. Celebrate each child’s uniqueness. One of the best parenting skills we can learn is to realize that each child is a unique individual and should not be compared to others. If we can learn to work with our children’s personalities, rather than against them, then we will have found an important key to raising happy and secure children. When we can embrace their strengths, encourage their interests, and accept them for who they are, then we will realize the true joy of being a parent.
Effective parenting skills do not have to be complicated. When we learn to meet our children’s needs on an overall level we set the stage for an amazing journey of parenthood that will make raising children both a blessing and a privilege.

Parenting is a tough job. All too often we do not come to appreciate just how rough our parents had it until we become parents ourselves. While parenting has always been challenging, it seems that parenting today is even tougher than it was for the generations before ours. I believe that is is more difficult because we are raising our children in a far different world than our parents raised us. For the most part, our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents had a pretty good parenting guide set out for them by watching the other members of their family and the world did not change the greatly from one generation to the next. In addition, previous generations of parents had a strong support system of not only examples but helping hands. Today, our mobile society and high rate of single parenthood (through divorce or from the beginning) have not only destroyed the support system of yesteryear but also created a lot more challenging childhood to parent. In our electronic age we do not lack for parenting advice and parenting tips, but it is so hard to pick and choose from the myriad of “helpful hints” to know just what will work for you and your child. However, just like so many other problems in life we are often our own worst enemies. Whenever the parenting choices get too tough then boil it down in importance by asking yourself one of these three key parenting questions.

First, are you a good role model for your child? You know right from wrong. You know what it means to be an adult. You know what kind of man or woman you hope your child to be when he or she grows up. If you want your child to grow up a certain way then try to give them a role model to follow. Children do as you do, not as you say, my mother always says, and I know this is true from watching my own child as well as my students. If you want your child to be kind then you need to demonstrate kindness. If you want your child to be a good student then model scholarship and demonstrate that you value education. If you want your child to have strong work ethic that show them what it means. You can tell your children you want them to stay in school but if you are a dropout who never pursued a G.E.D. then what message does that send? Our children can learn from our mistakes but too often they simply repeat them unless we show them how to change their life.

Second, are you preparing your child for life and adulthood? Don’t get me wrong. I think children should be allowed to be children. They should have fun and play. All too often today’s child grows up far too soon. I am not talking about talking about sex with your 6-year-old or forcing your 12-year-old to get a job. I mean simply starting when your child is young to teach responsibility, decision-making, and consequences. Start them small with little jobs and little decisions and then as they grow older you can increase the level. If you do too much for your child then they will not be able to do for themselves when they grow older. Also, if you teach your child that life is all fun and games then they are going to be really upset when they discover it is not. I don’t allow my 6-year-old to operate any kitchen equipment without supervision but he can make himself a peanut butter sandwich and pour a glass of milk. He can’t unload the entire dishwasher (and I shudder to think about him putting glassware in a cupboard over his head) but he can put the silverware away.

Finally, are you providing a solid emotional, physical and educational foundation for your child? Remember, your child may well be in charge of your life some day or maybe even in charge of all of our lives (hey somebody’s kid has to be President, why not mine or yours?). Many people with tremendously flawed beginnings grow up to be good people, but why handicap your child that way? No matter how many challenges you face personally it is your job as a parent to provide security and comfort for your child.

I believe that one of the keys to being a good parent is keeping your eyes on the prize. Focus on one universal rule or measuring stick and everything else will get much easier. What measuring stick should you use? That is up to you as this is your life and your child, but the measuring stick my husband and I use is a simple one. We think about what kind of man we want our son to be and apply that goal to the situation at hand. If you focus on being a good role model, preparing your child for life and adulthood, and providing a solid foundation then you are a good parent. Don’t sweat the small stuff if the big stuff is taken care of.

The countless times I heard “Are we there yet?’ and “MOM, Jim is looking at me!”. Here I am thinking about a fun and relaxing time and this was the furthest thing from it.
A vacation is a great chance to bond and create some great memories with your family. Traveling with kids can be a lot of fun. I finally figured out that if I just took a little extra time and planned our trip, I was able to make it so much more enjoyable.
The whole key was in the planning. We take so much time planning where we are going and what we will do. It only takes a little more effort to plan for the car or plane ride and the down time while vacationing. Just doing this one little thing will change your trip dramatically, you will begin your trip much more relaxed and happy.
Plan things for your children to do in the car, or while waiting at the airport and the plane ride.

We are planning a vacation with our young children. But where do we start? What should we look for in a family vacation venue? Camping – A Great Alternative For a Family Vacation

Camping is one of the most enjoyable types of vacation that a family can have. Many families enjoy doing typical camping activities such as having campfires, roasting marshmallows, swimming in the lake, fishing, and many more. Family Summer Vacation Ideas

There is nothing more rewarding than spending a great summer vacation with your family. In fact, the increasing number of travelling families annually has paved the way to the emergence of numerous family summer vacations worldwide. However, it is not always imperative to experience a great summer escapade overseas. In fact, your family can still enjoy a great summer adventure without having the need to travel abroad. Cheap All Inclusive Family Vacations

Looking for cheap all inclusive family vacations? Read here for more information about them.Do not give everything to them at once. Bring them out one at a time as needed. Coloring, drawing, reading are some great activities. Be sure to include some things for your kids to do when you have a little down time, such as getting ready for dinner or just relaxing after a long day.
I also figured out that when my kids were older it was best to let them bring a friend. The kids had so much more fun when they could do things with a friend. Dad and I were able to relax more which made the trip more enjoyable for us too. Our kid’s friends still talk about the trips that they have taken with us and how much fun we had.
Another key is to prepare your kids before you leave, let them know what to expect and how long it will actually take.
Discuss it in terms they will understand if they are younger.
The best tip that I can offer you is to just RELAX! Enjoy this time with your family and do not try to do it all.

Cedar is a type of wood which has all exceptional qualities imbibed in it. You can add a sense of beauty to your garden using the aromatic bouquet presented by Cedar Garden furniture. The natural oil present in Cedar provides you with a comforting atmosphere. The composition of Cedar oil is such that it repels insects and acts as a natural preservative and prevents your furniture from wear and tear. This contributes a lot to the life span of your garden furniture set. The arrival of Cedar furniture to your garden will certainly augment your outdoor activities and you would undoubtedly feel proud to own one.

The main variety of Cedar wood is the Thuja plicata and it found extensively in the forests of Washington and Idaho. Always ensure that the wood has a certificate of sustainable forestry practices before opting to buy one. If the letters

The Vendee is a great location for a family holiday. As well as the beaches, its easy access from the U.K., endless hours of sunshine and excellent watersports there are also plenty of campsites and mobile homes to choose from, which makes this location ideal for a family break. The trouble is that with so many campsites available, it’s hard to know which one to choose. I intend to make it a little bit clearer by giving my top five family-friendly campsites in The Vendee.

Camping le Clarys Plage

If your family’s idea of a great holiday is to enjoy the beach, and to spend time swimming in a fun and feature packed pool complex, then Camping le Clarys Plage may be just the campsite for you. The golden sands of the local beach are just 5 minutes walk away, while the pool provides excellent facilities for children and parents alike. There are plenty of slides, a jacuzzi, fountains and a separate covered pool and paddling pool for the children and toddlers. There is also evening entertainment throughout the season, and while there’s no restaurant or shop on site, a fine selection of bars and eateries are just a short walk away.

Camping les Biches

This is one of my favourite campsites in the Vendee, and is ideal for active families. As well as being close to the golden sands of the coast, Camping les Biches has a varied range of sporting activities and play areas for children of all ages. There’s a fantastic indoor and outdoor pool complex, a playground ideal for toddlers and a family friendly mini-golf course. On top of this, there are many other sports facilities including tennis, table tennis and volleyball. Finally, the site entertainment varies from live bands, to discos and karaoke. All of which will ensure your family have a fantastic holiday whilst enjoying the comfort and luxuries of a mobile home in the Vendee.

Camping La Garangeoire

You may think that travelling to a campsite based in the countryside will limit the family friendly fun you can have whilst camping in the Vendee, but Camping La Garangeoire looks to dispel this myth. It’s been awarded ‘three Red Tents’ by Michelin and it boasts some of the best activities onsite for children including a playroom, mini golf, pony rides, archery and pedaloes. On top of this, there’s also the excellent swimming pool which has plenty of water slides. Adults can relax at the peaceful lake onsite whilst enjoying a spot of fishing.

Camping Les Ecureuils

Nestled in the heart of the forests of the Vendee, Camping les Ecureuils boasts not only a Michelin three red tent rating but also a safe haven for families with small children. The campsite has a safe and friendly environment with plenty of space for energetic children to play. Families can enjoy the L-shaped pool (with separate children’s pool), as well as the lively entertainment program which includes magic shows and live music.

Camping La Yole

If you want to combine the golden sands of the coast as well as the forests of other campsites in the Vendee, then Camping la Yole is for you. Set in the heart of nature, this is a perfect location for those who want to relax whilst the children are off enjoying the pool complex which includes a large outdoor pool, children’s pool, heated indoor pool, Jacuzzi and waterslides. There’s also plenty of family friendly entertainment in high season too, with magic shows and discos guaranteed to keep the whole family amused during their stay on this fantastic campsite in the Vendee.

Holidaying in a tent or mobile home in the Vendee is a great choice for those with families. The resort style facilities and entertainment both onsite and nearby will keep children of all ages happy during your stay. All of these campsites will offer you a great break for you and your family no matter which one you choose.
